Q: Mail & Exchange

Mail frequently fails to download messages from the Exchange server (all settings for Exchange are correct).  This issue does not appear to be related to my internet connection (LAN and Wifi in that order); however, if I turn the wifi on and off (or off and on), the mail will download immediately.  Since a lot of people are having trouble with Mail, I read several threads on this and deleted thousands of emails from Exchange, checked all of my settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the exchange account.  I am at a loss.  I never had this problem before Yosemite.  Ideas?

    Hi kkp12,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that your Exchange account seems to be failing to download your mail to the Mail application on your Mac. I understand as well that you have already researched this issue and have deleted a lot of messages from the account. For the number of messages Microsoft recommends you keep, please refer to the attached article.

OS X Mail: Using Microsoft Exchange (EWS) accounts - Apple Support

    Get help

If large Exchange mailboxes don't download new content

This may happen if certificate authentication is enabled on the server and your mailboxes have a large number of email messages. Microsoft recommends that you keep fewer than 5000 mail messages in Exchange mailboxes. You may see this issue with mailboxes that have more than 11000 mail messages.

    Best regards,

    Joe

Thank you for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, cleaning the mailbox did not fix the problem.

My exchange email is fairly new. I have maybe 800 emails total.

My main issue is empty emails when they have attachments.

If it is just text in an email it usually shows up.  If it has an attachment - I will be hard pressed to get it to work.  Just continuously shows as fetching or getting the message with Loading... in the Mail app.

    I've tried rebuilding

I've tried disabling the automatic whatever was posted in a previous thread

Now I'm just going to start forwarding the emails from my work Microsoft Exchange to my personal gmail account so that I can open the attachments until Apple fixes this problem

    Hi ChrystalM

In Preferences, Accounts, Advanced - do you have "automatically download all attachments" ticked? If not, that might fix it.
