Q: ical not syncing to iCloud

ical on imac is receiving updates FROM iCloud, but not sending appointments TO iCloud. When I log into iCloud on the web, the events that are input on the imac are not there. iMac has yosemite 10.10.2, and iPhone 5 has iOS 8.2
