How To Remove Cdn.w55c.net

I had gotten rid of a viral infection from Java. It took a while with help from here, I think.

Then Adobe kept telling me adobe flash needed updated. I ignored it until I got tired of it and downloaded the update.

Then the popups started. The computer wanted to open a site: cdn.255c.net. I wouldn't allow it. The popups were around 50 this morning when I woke up the computer.

It's really annoying.

I checked on adware and followed directions downloading adware medic. Used that to look for adware, found some and trashed it per instructions.

But this didn't stop the cdn.w55c.net popups. It seems like adware.

Does anyone have any experience with this one?

Thank you very much in advance!

Did you find out?

I've got this virus too, I've removed the files manually, I've used AVG which has found a removed it, I've deleted my windows partition, deleted and re-installed OS X, deleted and re-installed Google Chrome, I've deleted all cookies. I've still got this virus, It is IMPOSSIBLE to remove and I'm pretty familiar with removing this sort of stuff!

I had thought of deleting Safari and downloading a new Safari but you cannot delete Safari! Unbelievable.

It's good that you didn't persist. Some people manage to figure out how to delete Safari, only to find that 1) you can't just download Safari by itself, you have to reinstall the entire system to get it back, and 2) doing that doesn't solve anything anyway, because deleting the Safari app doesn't actually delete anything that has any effect on this problem.

Further, if my theory is correct, replacing your computer won't help either. Did you see the link that I referred to you back in May?

Sorry, Thomas.

I hadn't seen your reply in May, I don't think. I haven't been getting emails for replies-frustrating.

But I got the one for your reply today!

I read the link on troubleshooting the wireless router with my mac.

I don't think this applies to my problem:

  • This only happens when I use Safari, not any other browser
  • It happens when I use other networks, as when we go camping
  • This all started when I tried to download 'weatherbug', a download I've found is frought with awful malware. It changed my Safari preferences, changing my homepage and a few other things (can't remember now-I've been living with this for a while). At the same time the pop-up to open Cdn.w55c.net started.

So, it seems this problem is only related to my Safari.

Why wouldn't a new puter solve this for me if it's not my router/network?

I appreciate your time and thoughts on this. But I don't think that's the problem.

Surely there are others with this curse!

Here's the system snapshot:

(I also tried to remove the malware again-to no avail.)

One more thing.

When I did the scan to look for malware using Malwarebytes Antimalware, I got this message:

There was a problem connecting to the server "idisk.mac.com".

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the werver name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

My network is working fine. I don't understand what this means.

I see nothing installed that looks like adware, especially adware that would only affect Safari. Try starting up in safe mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

While in safe mode, test Safari by browsing in the same manner you normally would. Do you still have problems with pop-up ads, or are they gone?

As for the connection to idisk.mac.com, you must have an alias to an old iDisk sitting around somewhere that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac is tripping over, causing OS X to try to mount that volume, which no longer exists. I'm not sure how to tell you to fix that.

Aug 27, 2015 5:52 PM in response to thomas_r.

Sorry, just haven't had time to do this and it's something I've never done.

Guess I shouldn't worry about losing my data when I do this?

I'll try it tomorrow after backing up my most important stuff.

Thank you so much for your help in this.

Funny, yesterday this popup came up just about every 5 minutes. Today I don't think I've seen it…Strange.

Starting up in safe mode? No, you shouldn't worry any more than you do when using your computer normally, although you should always have backups. If you don't have backups, every moment of every day is a moment where something with your computer could go wrong and cause you to lose data.
