Q: Thunderbolt LAN dongle needs a reboot after plugging in

I can "hot plug" the Thunderbolt network adapter when running Mac OS X but not when running Bootcamp Windows 7. Is this a Bootcamp drivers issue ?

This is expected behavior with Bootcamp/Windows. You will always have to restart/shutdown, with the Thunderbolt LAN adapter plugged into the Mac then boot into Windows to get the adapter to work. See here for more information.

Well I sort f realised it is expected bahaviour seeing as that is what it does However your link is just plain wrong, it says " You need to reboot because the adapter is not hot-pluggable." That's just not true as it's hot pluggable under Mac OS X.

What I am asking is whether this is recognised as a problem and whether there might in some future version of BootCamp be a fix.

Hibernate/Sleep can also be used in Windows to reload the driver. When a TB connection is made to a DP/TB display, it is hot-pluggable in Windows and OSX, both. This is a driver issue in Apple-provided driver that creates a TB-bridge not supporting such a function.

I didn't read that link as NOT "hot-pluggable" for OS X, just Windows under Bootcamp.

Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support

    1. Are Thunderbolt devices “hot pluggable” using Windows with Boot Camp?

The iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) and the Mac mini (Late 2014) support “hot pluggable” Thunderbolt devices using Windows 8 or 8.1 (both as 64-bit only).

For all other Mac computers, Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 scans and activates Thunderbolt devices connected to Thunderbolt ports only during the Windows startup process. If your device was not plugged in at start up, Windows will not detect it without a restart.

Well I read it as what it said, that the "adapter" is not hot swappable - an adapter being a piece of hardware not software, but we'll beg to differ.

That would be excellent news, but I've just tried it and it doesn't work (for me) either sleep or hibernate.
