Otherwise you can't restore from that backup
Definitely not itunes password, that is long and this is asking for a 4 digit code, my iphone asks for a 4 digit code but I have set one...not set one on this device. Really confusing me, I have sold the old ipod as my son has a 5th gen one, person coming later to collect and I can't erase content!
Sounds like it is the Restrictions (Settings>General>Restrictions) PW. If y do not know it
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

It didn't work the first time it was on there 59 mins (slow internet) but all content was there even though it said it would erase it, so re did and it worked, thanks very much.
Trying to restore factort settings, it is asking for password, however we have never put a password on it?!
