Hi, I have a Mac Book Pro 5,5 mid 2009 13'.
The battery status shows up as "service battery". Can anyone tell me what are my options and also if I don't do anything, what are the consequences.

If you are seeing a "Service Battery" status on your MacBook Pro, you may find the information outlined in the following article helpful:
Service Battery: The battery isn’t functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behavior or the amount of charge it holds. Take your computer in for service. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer.

Would you know how much it would cost if I went to the Apple Store to have my computer checked? Also, if I don't check it, would there be consequences?

Apple batteries for MacBook Pro's should hold 800 cycles before failure... If you have Apple Care call them or go to the Apple Store and they will replace the battery for free. Also, if you bring your power cables for that mac they will inspect it and if need be they will replace that for free too.
Hi,
I unfortunately don't have Apple Care and I'm also out of warranty right now. Would there be a charge if I just bring the laptop in for them to inspect but not to replace the battery? I want to know if my battery should still be used without consequences.
