How can I disable Command-H keyboard shortcut.
I want to use Command-H for other reasons than hiding the current application. But I can't find how to disable that global keyboard command in system preferences.

From what I can see you aren't allowed to change the basic commands such as command-H, -C, -V or -X. Would you be happy with command-shift-H? - that might work.
You could use a utility such as BetterTouchTool which will allow you to create a hotkey out of Command-H and either make it a Global hotkey or associate it with an specific application.
BetterTouchTool is also great to adding customized trackpad gestures to your Macbook Pro.
I just bought a new (used) computer with OS 10.6 and I can get used to it if there's no way around it. But in OSX 10.4 I was able to use command-H for different tasks in numerous applications and if I accidentally hit command-H it hides my application. This is a case of a so-called improvement being a step backwards, as Apple has done to many things over the years.
I have QuiKeys which does the same thing: create keayboard shortcuts for just about anything. But there seems to be no way to use it to intercept command-H and replace it with something else globally or within InDesign. Is there a way to disable command-H through the Terminal?
I used BetterTouchTool (BTT) to actually map Command-H to another function of my choosing on a Global Basis. But I'm sure I could have just as easily performed the mapping on a per app basis. I use BTT on 10.6, 10.7 and 10.9 versions of Mac OS X. It has been working very well for me. Initially I got it for its ability to give me list of extra trackpad gestures, but I've found the hotkey mapping to be useful as well.
I know the name QuickKeys, but I have never owned the product.
I've been trying to download Better Touch Tools 10.6.8 and have been unable to. Either I get the version for 10.7 or it leads me to download a download manager for windows machines.
The Snow Leopard version is still available:
The last 64bit Snow Leopard (10.6 ) version (v 0.939 ) can be downloaded here
If you are using an older 32bit Mac you’ll have to use this version: 0.785
Got it.
Had to disable the Global command-H, Create new Keyboard shortcuts for those other apps that use command-H, such as attach document in Eudora, and then in BTT use command-H to trigger that new application shortcut.
A little convoluted, but it works.
Thanks.
