Power Mac G4. I found a Power Mac G4 second hand and I am not the administrator.

I found a Power Mac G4 second hand and I am not the administrator. The system on this device is Mac OS X version 10.3.9. CPU-type PowerPc G4 (3.3).

I dont have recovery disks for this system but I have kept Mac OS X install DVD and applications install DVD version 10.6.1 from my last iMac, (ultimo 2010).

Will I be able to erase the disk on my G4 and use the 10.6.1 system from my iMac on the G4?

I can´t do much without administrator rights on the G4.

So I take it you figured out that you cannot run OS 10.6 on the G4? The highest any G4 can run is 10.5.8, and that requires a minimum 867gHz processor.

Furthermore I had to

Create a new admin user, and then,

Boot to single-user mode (hold ⌘ and the S key for 30 seconds at startup).

Type:

/sbin/mount -uw /

Press Return.

{Nothing appears to happen, no problem.}

Type:

rm /var/db/.applesetupdone

Press Return.

Type:

reboot

Press Return.

That fixed my problem totally!
