I now use an apple macbook pro and use pages for word documents. My personal financial records are kept on old microsoft excel sheets and would like to transfer these to pages. Can I do this

The equivalent of Excel is Numbers. You should use that instead of Pages, which is for word processing.
Thank you Tom. I guess I have to download numbers, which is not a problem, but can I then copy and paste my old records onto the new work sheets?

Normally you would just do File > Open on your .xls files.
