Q: Expiration terms about servicing old macs

Hi all,

someone remembers how many old a Mac can be, before being left out the paid (out of warranty) support service?

I mean, I just like avoid s&h fees just to have it returned back because no longer serviceable..

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), (21.5" Late 2009)

The standard Apple warranty is for one year.  If you purchased Applecare the warranty would be 3 years from date of purdahse.  After that there's no warranty.

If you live close enough to an Apple store you can take it there and avoid the S&H charges.  They'll even carry it from your car to the store and back.  The diagnostic tests are free.

Thanks for reply, I just can guess the free diagnostics apply just to in warranty hardware, as long as I were asked a fee just for the diagnostics only, as long as I am out of warranty so cannot apply Applecare or anything.

My question, is about how long an iMac will be serviced by standard Apple support, before any official service drops.

To be more specific, I am talking about an iMac late 2009, that needs repairs. Yes it is out of warranty, in fact I don't ask it being serviced for free, I am willing to pay the repair fees but the question is, will it be serviced at all?

The free diagnosis is for any Mac whether it's in warranty or not.  Call the local Apple store and ask if they are still servicing that year's models.  I think you'll find they are.

Hello, I had checked with local store.

Older models are discontinued from any kind of service when are passed five (or seven, local region applies) years from end-of-life date. It means no repair is possible by official support. After seven years, any product is not serviceable by Apple support.

In my case, I am at the limit of the list, iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) is in the list, but my one 27-inch Late 2009 is not.

It means if I want it serviced, better I hurry, because it will be likely to go in that list soon
