Unable to send / receive iMessages from iPad

I am unable to send or receive iMessages on an iPad 4.

If I enter a valid contact that has iMessage (including my own) the numbers show as red. I have disabled and re-enabled iMessage to no avail.

Sending myself an iMessage from my iPhone sends the message to my phones but not the iPad

iMessage work OK on my iPhones.

Any ideas please?

If you are having an issue with being unable to send or receive iMessages on your iPad, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
