When I buy music from the iTunes store on my iPad, it downloads automatically. I don't want that to happen. I am quite content to leave the music in iTunes in the Cloud untiI I really want it downloaded. I do have automatic downloads turned off in iTunes & App Store settings, but the auto downloads keep happening. Is this normal? What can I do to actually keep unwanted downloads from happening?
Do those "automatic downloads" have a cloud icon beside them? If so, they are not actually downloading. To turn off the view of items in the cloud for music: Settings app > Music > Show all Music [turn OFF]
You are taking the time to purchase some music, but you do not want it to download to your device? That is not automatic downloads. That is downloading a purchase that you made. If you purchase it, why is that an unwanted download?
I buy an album in the iTunes Store app and then I see beside each track a circle that shows download progress, which eventually completes. When I switch to the Music app and look at the album, the tracks have no cloud icon beside them.
I don't want it to download because I don't want it to take up memory space on my iPad. I can play it from the cloud instead.
Then you will need to delete it from the iPad after the purchase. There is no setting that I am aware of to purchase music from iTunes and send it directly to the cloud. Once you delete it from the iPad, it will then be available in the cloud. You might get a different answer from the iTunes forum, but I'm not certain.
OK, but it makes no sense to me. Given the ease of playing music directly from the cloud, it would seem that the default option would be not to download music automatically, especially when auto downloads is set to off! The way it is now, I have a lot of extra work to do to delete all the songs manually.
