iPad two stuck in recovery mode

I have and iPad two that is stuck in recovery mode. When you power it on you get the iTunes logo and the cable screen. I connect to iTunes it is recognized and says the iPad needs to be updated or restored. I choose restore it goes through about a 15 minute process then iTunes come up with The iPad "ipad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred -1.

I tried several USB ports several cables and multiple PCs to no avail.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.
