When I try to update on my ipad (apple), my son's apple id comes up and won't (of course) except my apple password. It doesn't appear that he is signed in on the settings under Itunes and apps store. How do I sign him out and get my account up to update???

Mac OS X (10.6.8), Issues with it working.
You can't, the apps were downloaded using his ID, if you want to disassociate them from his you must delete them, then download them using your ID.
You delete and redownload the application you're trying to update; his Apple ID is stored inside it.

WEll how do I get his Apple id off my app store and sign in with mine so I can download the apps. When I go to settings and privacy, it says I am signed in. What am I missing? I appreciate your help.

Since you're signed in, your Apple ID will be associated with new iTunes Store downloads, but you still need to delete the applications with his Apple ID inside them; this is independent of the one signed in.
