I am having real problems receiving mail to my virgin.net account. Any advice would be welcome.

I have a MacBook Pro (2009) Mac OS Extended.

I have a @virgin.net email account set up when I bought the laptop in 2009.

I have configured the email account in accordance with Virgin instructions.

I understand that Virgin do not support Apple Macs.

I receive some email into the Virgin Mailbox but not regularly -

the last email in the Virgin mailbox is dated 12.05.13, and in the Virginmedia mailbox the last one is 25/01/15

I don't understand why it works sometimes and not others.

Sending email seems to be OK.

I have a Gmail mailbox and a Googlemail mailbox - they seem to be reliable.

Should I just give up on the Virgin.net address or is there a way of configuring it on my MacBook Pro?

Puzzled

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
