Adobe for mac

I received an adobe editable form in my email and saved it to my documents. I can open it an edit it in preview but the text is not lining up as well as I would like. As an example an area code has three separate fields to enter the numbers but when I open it in preview the area code appears in only one field. It looks passable but I was wondering if it is safe to download adobe to fill in a form such as this.
