Movies bought with apple tv not in iTunes

I have purchased movies using apple TV but when I access my iTunes library on my Mac they are not there. If I search for the movie and click on it, I am being prompted to purchase it again. How do I get my iTunes account on my computer to sync with my apple TV, I thought it would be automatic. I am using a Mac running Yosemite 10.10.2 and everything is up to date. Thanks.

Assuming you are using the same Apple ID on your Apple TV and your iTunes library, try this:

Go to the movies area in the iTunes Store area. Click the "Purchased" link about halfway down on the right side. Find the "Not in my library" tab toward the top. See if the movie is listed there and downloadable.
