When I call my husbands iPhone 4s I can't hear him unless it is on speaker

I understand you are having a problem hearing when on a phone call. I want to be sure that I understand the nature of the problem correctly.
- The problem only occurs when you call your husband's phone
- You cannot hear him unless your phone is in speakerphone mode
