How do I clear my photo storage on iPhone 6?

I have an iPhone 6 and storage showed full, with pictures being the largest use of memory. I deleted all photos (after backing them up) but photo storage still shows as using 5.6 GB. What do I need to do to clear this memory?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

Greetings kershbo,

If your iPhone photo storage still shows so much space being taken up by photos that have been deleted, you may need to reinstall the operating system on the iPhone. Use the steps here -

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support

Specifically -

  1. Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
  2. Put your device in recovery mode.
  3. When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Be well,
