itunes does not recognize my iphone 6

I have a new iphone 6.

Using the cable that came with the phone, I plug in the phone to the usb 2.0 connection. i hear the bong-bong sound of the connection.

The iphone shows up in windows explorer. It is charging.

I go to itunes and my phone is not there. Do the diagnostics test and it shows a failure because no device detected.

I have followed all the steps recommended by apple support to uninstall all the software and start over, in the exact order specified.

My itunes software and the device driver are all up to date.

I still cannot sync my phone
