MacBook Pro
Dont understand. The article references FireWire? No idea what that is. Help?
Look at the connections of both units:

If I knew the exact Macbook Pro that you have, I could give you specific recommendations.
Ciao.
sure, what would you need to know?
it's 2012, model A1278, 13.3", made in 2012. Does that help?

It does indeed.
What would be required is a Thunderbolt connection on both ends of the cable. Both the 2012 Macbook Pro and all new Macbook Airs have a Thunderbolt port.

The above is an example of such a cable.
Ciao.
I think i have one of those. then what would i do to move everything over please?
If you click on the link that I provided in my initial response, all of the details are there.
Connect the two Macs with the Thunderbolt wire. Start the 2012 MBP with the T key down and you will see a 'Y' symbol floating on the display.
Start the Air normally and you will see a HHD for the 2012 Mac. Click on it and a window will appear showing the files on the 2012 Mac. Drag and drop them on the Air where you want them.
Ciao.
