Show position in clip for free run timecodes in browser

The media browser shows the free run timecodes but I want to see the position in the clip. How do I do this?

A couple of ways – using FCP X. (There are other ways that use other apps.)

Open the clip in its own timeline and create a compound clip.

Or edit the clip to a Project Timeline, which TC can start at whatever you want (Modify Settings), export and reimport.

To move the playhead to a TC value, click in the Dashboard time field. Type the new value you want and the playhead will move to that position.

Apple actually fixed the Timecode generator (Generators > Elements > Timecode). You can manipulate the Offset parameter to zero the timecode literally anywhere. If you're starting at 16 hours, it would be best to offset in the positive time direction to 00:00:00:00. [To offset in the negative direction, you need to dial up the hours to 24/00, then you can drag down the minutes/seconds/frames in the negative direction. Click on the individual numbers, or select the number and use the up and down arrows on the ends.]
