How can I prevent iPad2 from changing settings automatically?

Several times my iPad 2 has changed my Airplane Mode and Wi-Fi settings to off when I turn it on after it has been in a sleep mode.

How can I prevent this from happening? Why is it happening?

The changes are something you are doing. Probably from the settings bar that you access by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Or someone else is changing the settings. The settings do not change by themselves.
