My Apple TV is not responding. It is only showing the apple icon. I have tried to reset by holding the menu and down arrow on the remote. No luck. I have tried to hook it up to my computer to update it, but it will not show anywhere in my itunes, in upper right next to itunes store or in a separate window.

I understand that your Apple TV is not responding and displays an Apple logo. Since you have attempted a reset via the remote, try restarting the Apple TV via the steps below.
Unplug the Apple TV power cord for three seconds, and then plug it back in.
