Brand new Macbook Pro running slow?

My new macbook arrived today, and since turning it on I have noticed it has been sluggish. (animations in particular are slow)

I set it up as a brand new machine, so there are no files on the computer and I have not yet downloaded anything.

Its literally empty. Yet its idling at 9gb ram use with just Safari open. This is after multiple restarts, resetting the SMC aswell as PRAM. Still the same.

I thought it may be spotlight indexing, however it does not say it is when I type something in and I have left the computer on for hours now and its still slow.

Any ideas?
