WD external drive won't repair - exit code 8

Hi There,

I have a MBP (2010) running on OS X Yosemite (10.10.2) and used to save my media files in a WD 1T My Passport external HD formated as Mac OS Extended.

Few days a go I tried to plug the drive but it doesn't appear in Finder and gave this error message:

User uploaded file

When trying Initialize the Disk Utility the HD appears there but its single Volume wouldn't mount. After running Disk Verification it asked for Repair. When trying to repair the disk this message was stated:

User uploaded file

The 1 TB WD My Passport info is this:

User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

I tried to Mount it through Terminal but couldn't succeed either...

User uploaded file

Tried Disk Warrior and it ended up freezing every time it gets in the error partition...

I do backup this 1 T HD eventually but haven't done that for few months and if I am not able to rescue the recent data I will loose plenty of important photos/videos, including my niece's first birthday...

Don't know anymore what to do! I am trying even to rescue and save/backup my recent media so I could format this HD again.

Anyone have any idea?

I appreciate the HELP, thanks

Márcio

The drive is either nearly dead or completely dead. You may be able to recover information using:

My data has become inaccessible, and I don't have a backup!

Either way, once you recover information if the drive is under the manufacturer warranty you may be able to get a replacement direct from the manufacturer for free if there was no clear physical damage to it.

I've experienced the same problems described here with a WD passport (exit code 8). After failing in Yosemite, the same WD drive works fine in OS 10.6.8. If you have access to an older mac, this may be a quicker way to get at your files and copy them to a healthy drive.

If anyone out there (Apple?) knows why the same drive's compatibility would vary across versions of Mac OS, please chime in.
