file for backlit keyboard

I have problems with my backlit keyboard on my mid 2010 macbook pro, after I installed more RAM and disturbed the small ribbon cable, i repaired and was advised to trash the keyboard ambient light file in folders, this did not work and late I emptied trash, now in preferences keyboard there is nor tick box or slider appearing, and I cannot control or work it, the icons f5 and f6 are not working for the backlit KB either can anyone assist please.
