MacBook Air recognizes camera but photos won't load

I recently dug my old Canon EOS rebel digital camera out. I took a few photos, then plugged it into my old 2008 MacBook Pro and the images immediately loaded into iPhoto. This week I got a new MacBook Air and have just plugged the camera in and although both iPhoto and Image Capture can see the camera, the images don't ever appear for me to import, it just says, "loading" in the case of iPhoto or, in the case of Image Capture, the "spinning wheel of working" appears, but that's it. Short of getting a card reader or plugging it into my pro any suggestions?

Never mind. We found a PTP setting on the camera and that did the trick!
