I paired the ipod successfully and it is connected but I am unsure how to play music through it(PS3). There is no icon on the PS3 screen denoting the ipod. Super new to ipod ownership.

Yes it the PS3 supports the A2DP profile
so after I pair it should I just hear it coming through the tv speakers when I press play or is there another step involved?

Googling shows that you can connect bluetooth speakers to the PS3 (PS3 as transmitter) but I could not find anything about how to use the PS3 as a receiver.
An iPod is a bluetooth receiver but not a transmitter except for using the mic in a bluetooth receiver (HFP Hands Free Profile)
