Does LTE use more cell data?

I have used my iPhone 6 for just over 2 months now. My habits have not

really changed since the days of iPhone4S, but my Cell Data Usage

has tripled.

With the iPhone 4S I barely used 1GB of data per month, but in these

two months I have chewed over 4GB per month.

Are apps LTE aware and so require more cellular data than 3G?
