songs from a disconnected hard drive

I attached an external hard drive to my laptop. iTunes read the entire directory and is including it when I open iTunes. However, I do not have the external drive attached. So when I go to play song A it says it cannot be found.

How can I tell iTunes to ONLY show me songs actually resident on my laptop?
