Apple $310 flat rate repair plan? Have any of you actually taken Apple up on this deal to repair your MacBook Pro/Air? Is it worth it?
Thanks.
MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15 Inch 2Ghz
Thanks.

Totally worth it, but only if the repairs would cost more than $310 (Logic board. Top and Bottom case) if you send it in, make sure you tell Apple there are issues with your Top Case and Bottom case, so they replace those items too. I have gotten hard drive, logic board, keyboard, top and bottom case replaced before (at that point you basically got a new Mac)
TheSnapDude,
Yes, I did take advantage of this, and I'm very glad I did. Here is what they replaced on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010). I included their comments, as to why they replaced the parts.
Parts:
605-3129 Logic Board 2.53 GHz - Intermittent Black Screen or Loss of Video (Multiple Issues)
631-0959 MagSafe Board - Mechanical - Connector/Cable/Duckhead Damaged
605-2064 Battery Indicator Light - Cables - Defective
Came back like a new machine. ;-)
Yes, I had it done on an older 2009 MacBook, it was worth every penny.
Oh that's awesome, what did they do for you? Did they repair everything wrong? My early 2011 MBP is having problems, and my early 2008 MBP doesn't turn on... Would Apple do the repairs for the 2008 one for the $310 as well?
I have no idea whether your Mac will qualify for the 'Depot' repair, take it in and ask. And yes, everything was replaced that needed replacing.
Cool, thanks! When I take Apple up on this offer what do you recommend I do with my Mac before handing it over to Apple? I was thinking about doing a clean install, and not putting in any of my data...
Back it up, if the data matters, nothing if it does not matter to you.
Did you wipe your Mac before giving it over to Apple for the repairs?
Nope, just handed it over, it came back with the same data restored to it.(But don't rely on that happening)
Right on man, thank you. I will call Apple and see if they will do the repair on my early 2008 MBP. That was my first mac, and it would be a great back up computer. lol
You're welcome
Hi, I had one more question for you... I don't have any water damage at all on my mac but it has been just acting weird. The $310 price covers ALL repairs right? There are no surprise extra costs?
As far as I know everything (hardware) is covered.
Ok awesome, thank you!
Did you need to sign up for any sort of plan beforehand? Or can you just take it in and ask them to repair it/replace parts?
