macbook pro suddenly impossibly slow

Hello

I understand that this question has been asked on many occasions but i believe i have almost exhausted my ideas.

2 days ago my macbook pro 13” was suddenly very slow and unresponsive with no significant changes on my part. i literally have no idea what could have caused this. The problem is random but definitely there. For example at times an action as simple as right clicking would bring me the spinning wheel for a good 30 seconds before everything jumps. and applications could take over 2 mins to open. Also, it would be impossible to listen to music or watch videos, the songs on iTunes would just periodically stop every 5 or so seconds then play then stop again.

I play league of legends which is a game which usually only uses a maximum of 250mb of ram. I have played this game on my macbook for almost a year and suddenly it takes forever to run. I could literally sit for 10 minutes for it to even start. and Lastly something small but could be helpful information, my wireless mouse also stops responding when these unresponsive moments happen while the touchpad works.

My attempts to find the source of the problem or fix it are as follows:

Tried to scan and clean Mac using clean my mac 2

Tried clearing my desktop. Currently just 1 item on it

Ensured i have enough free space on hard drive. only roughly 150gbs of 500 used

Attempted SMC reset

Updated OS to Yosemite

Ran AHT (no errors)

Disk Utility (no errors)

Honestly i have tried everything. Heck i even UPDATED MY OS, and the problem carried itself right through. It is honestly insane how it can have small bursts of performance for maybe a minute where i can browse the internet like a normal person then back to **** where pages go blank. You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to make this post. Honestly if someone has a solution i would really appreciate it because i am a university student and am doubting i could easily pay apple’s steep prices.

If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

You should never, ever update your OS to fix some problem unless the only problem you have is one the OS update is supposed to fix perfectly. If you have just general issues like this, the update will only make things worse.

So, where to start? You can start by unplugging your FRANCS drive that is failing. Having a failing drive hooked up will slow down the entire system.

You don't need any "clean up" tools, especially one that modify your operating system and run 24/7. Remove those. Make sure to use a vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Never remove files by hand. Never use an "app zapper". In some cases, there may not be an uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. In those cases, if you can find someone who has explicit instructions and is willing to walk you through, then manually removing it may be the only possibility.

You are running the latest OS X on an older machine with only 4 GB RAM and an older, mechanical hard drive. Yosemite runs best with at least 8 GB of RAM and especially an SSD.

You have adware installed. EtreCheck isn't flagging it red like it is supposed to. I will fix that in an update. For now, just click the "adware - remove" link to download AdwareMedic and remove your adware.

Finally, you have a couple of 3rd party system modifications to support 3rd party hardware. I have no idea if those are compatible with Yosemite or not.
