Powering back on unresponsive

Whenever I turn my Mac off or it goes dead and I charge it and turn it back on it is unresponsive and will not let me type in my password and the screen will go black with still no response to hitting the keyboard, moving the mouse pad, nothing. The only thing that will get it to work is by turning it completely off and then letting it reboot, which is so time consuming when you need to access things quickly. PLEASE HELP I'm desperate and this is like my fifth time having a problem.

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
