Memory issues

My phone says its memory is full. When I look at memory usage in settings, it says I have used 12.2GB, but when I go to the details of memory usage and total the memory listed for photos, music, and the various programs/applications, I only get to around 5GB.

Where are the missing 7GB? Are there hidden "system files" or similar?
