30 GB worth of photos installed???

So After cleaning out my MacBook Air it says that I have 30 GB worth of photos. I have ZERO on this computer... I also have no videos stored anywhere, or music. As for Apps, basic applications are installed, bare min from what the computer came with plus MS office. I just don't know whats with the 30GB worth of photos remaining... Is there anyway to clear that up on this drive?

Re-index Macintosh HD.

Spotlight reindexing will take a while to finish.

System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409

Note:

If you don’t have Macintosh HD icon on the desktop,

Finder > Preferences > General > Show these items on the desktop:

Enable “Hard disks”.

Try OmniDiskSweeper. This will show the storage size details of the items.

Select Macintosh HD and click “Sweep Selected Drive” at the bottom.

Be careful. Delete only the files that can be safely deleted. If you are not sure about any file, don’t touch it.

Ok, I followed this and I now get this:

It freed up a few GB worth of space, but now "other" is my biggest file content. I still have no photos or videos stored on this computer so Im unsure why it still displays 21.78GB Photos and 6.62GB videos.

As for the videos, I'm thinking that the videos might be the trailer videos and preview videos for iMovie, but I'm unsure. again Photos, I have none. I wiped iPhoto and anything that was in apps or folders that weren't system photos.

Did you use OmniDiskSweeper to find out about the storage?

As soon as I posted this the drive changed... A few hours later after following the above steps... I have more space taken up in the drive now... Past having to re-install a few programs from the old users apple account. Im so lost right now. And no I have not used OmniDiskSweep yet.

I had 58.80GB about 30 min ago. (Did some browsing and thats all.

This is just getting really odd. When I delete something it should be deleted, not hidden. I went into safe mode and deleted the files in the trash, that did little to nothing. But upon entering safe mode the screen got fat white flashing vertical lines. I read thats normal but, i have never had that on any other macs I have owned before. This MacBook is giving me quite the trouble with its flash storage.

This computer has only been backed up once, that was today, and not once has it had an iPhone plugged into it. I found an odd bit of software on this mac, not sure I should touch it. Its called Tuxera NTFS. I have no clue what that is other then it has to do with hard drives and whatnot. It has a activation key and everything. Could this be my issue? And now iMovie won't mount in launchpad... So close to flashing the drive with a fresh install. Have to do this with another computer anyway, but I would rather not go through two setups. Have to send this in for a messed up camera anyway.

Ok so here is an update on what has been going on. I cannot source the "photos" on any program even Omni, I deleted the program once I was done. The Flash drive tends to lose a few GB and upon restart it just gets those back... what gives with that? The computer isn't as "zippy" with things too, it has a sluggish feel to it. I repaired permissions and that did a little bit with the sluggish feel, but not much.

I do not want to re-flash this computer with OS X, but I'm very tempted. I lose MS office if I do this.

I really need to clear up that space HELP!!!

Ok here is the solution to this issue, When you clear out iPhoto the iPhoto Library, in the photos folder, must be deleted. Put it in the trash and let it delete it. When you open iPhoto again it will ask what library to use, simply select "create new library" and BAM done. iPhoto seems to archive bits of data that really added up. I had 31 GB of photos listed, now its all gone. Whatever is in other I am still trying to figure out, my guess is that its system files. Thanks everyone. User uploaded file

You are correct: how the "photos" came in iPhoto Library is not relevant, they are in that Library complete. Not just thumbnails or aliases ! That is important. Then when you delete them from the Library in iPhoto you must realise that iPhoto has it's own Trash: thus they become "other" in the list. Thus you have to empty this Trash in iPhoto ! You did OK at the end. And you can mark your own post as Solved, but you do not get the points 😁
