When checking "storage" under "About this Mac" it shows 55 gb of "other", what is that?

I have a mid 2011 Macbook Air with a data storage capacity of 120gb. When I check to see how much storage i had left it shows that 55gb of my capacity is used up under the nebulas category of "other". How do I determine what this is?

MacBook Air, iOS 8.2, 120 gb storage

1. Re-index Macintosh HD.

This will take a while. Wait until it is finished.

System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

2.Try OmniDiskSweeper. This will show the storage size details of the items.

Select Macintosh HD and click “Sweep Selected Drive” at the bottom.

Be careful. Delete only the files that can be safely deleted. If you are not sure about any file, don’t touch it.

Other consists of things like forms that applications make. If you want to try to get rid of them manually, you might want to get a safe application that was referred to me by an Apple employee and works well for this situation. It's called "OmniDiskSweeper." If you don't want to manually do it, I suggest scheduling a meeting at the genius bar at your nearest Apple store. Having OmniDiskSweeper also helps the genius bar help you quicker.

I hope this helped!
