On iOS device, clear recents

Question

On iOS device, clear recents

When you double click on the home button, on the top it displays your recent contacts that you have recently email or sent a message to. Is there a way to clear those?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Sorry if I bothered you. I was in a hurry, and must have hit submit without looking at the lower section after the text box for the question. I guess I thought the subject line "On iOS device" would have got me to someone that would answer my question.
