how do i know if my device is connected to wifi? And how to tell which Apple TV version that i have bought? Thank you

Settings > General > Network.

Settings > General > About > Model.

If the device is not properly connected to the network you will typically only see the Settings and Computers icons. If the device is having trouble setting date/time then that is another indicator.
