My Iphone 5 shows more photos and more space than the 6 I have on my phone

That's feasible, why do you think they should have the same number.

I have 6 actual photos in camera roll yet when I sync my phone on my macbook it shows that I have 309 pics and the space for same count is taken up on available space on my phone
Ignome my original remark, I misread your post.
Are you counting your photos via iPhoto ot iTunes, if the later have you synced your phone before reading the results, do you have any recently deleted photos or any shared albums.
I am counting the photos on my iphone 5 in settings, general, about. It shows 310 and I only have 6 on the phone. I have synced the phone and have removed recently deleted and shared albums.
I can't explain that, have you tried restarting the phone.
