Ethernet Cable vs Wireless

Download speed to iMac connected to verizon gateway using ethrnet cable is 2.78 mbps. With WiFi turned off at the iMac is 3.79 mbps. Looks like wireless takes precedence over cable?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Whichever is listed first in Network preferences takes precedence if both are enabled.

Do you have wireless devices also connected? If so, they share bandwidth with all other connected devices.

Thanks for the idea. I reversed the order in Network preferences. Now its 3.86 mbps and with WiFi turned off, its 3.49 mbps.
