Missing side list.

Before I upgraded to Yosemite I used to have like a sidebar where I could choose what ever I wanted to see...events, library etc. and now when I open iPhoto I see it very briefly and it goes away and I see the Events photos which I don't want. How do I get the list back?

thanks for any help.

Move the cursor to the left edge of the iPhoto window until it turns into this:

User uploaded file

Then click and drag to the right to open the side pane.

If that fails delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your

User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.

This will reset iPhoto to the "factory" settings with the side pane visible. Launch iPhoto, reset the various iPhoto preferences to what you had before deleting the file.

NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

User uploaded file

where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
