can't enter division operator

I can't enter the division operator when trying to divide one cell by another. It keeps inserting a + sign rather than a / sign when using the formula generator. The division operator works if I insert it manually, say dividing a specific number by another number. I am using the latest version of numbers on a MacBook Air.

Are you sure you aren't mistaking a ÷ (dividing sign) for a + sign?

This solved my problem. I was expecting a “/” sign since that how division is entered. Given the small font I was using, the division sign looked like a plus sign. Thanks for your help.
