App Store does not work.

I am having a problem, about two weeks now, with my App Store. It does not download any new applications and it does not do any updates. Whenever I press the icon for the download or the update, nothing happens. Could you please help me? Note that I made a new Apple ID, which is sychronized with my computer (if this counts), but this problem existed before my new Apple ID, so I do not believe it has to do with it.
