Hi sfrommo,

The resource below explains how to respond to the error messages you are receiving when you try to back up your iPad. If the error message you are seeing is not listed in the article, please take a screen shot of it and reply with more info.

It sounds like there may be an issue with your Apple ID, so I've highlighted that specific section. Have you tried backing up to iTunes as well?

This iPhone cannot back up to iCloud without a verified email address.

This message occurs if you need to verify your Apple ID email address:

  1. Go to My Apple ID.
  2. Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in.
  3. Update the email address listed in your account. Apple will send a verification email to the updated address. Didn't get the email?

If you have trouble remembering the message you got, you can take a screenshot on your iOS device. Just press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device, then immediately press and release the Home button. The screenshot will save to your Photos tab or Camera Roll.

Back up using iTunes

Use these steps to back up the content on your iOS device to iTunes on your computer:

  1. Make sure your computer has the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Choose File > Devices > Back up.

To check that the backup finished successfully, open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. You'll see the name of the device along with the date and time iTunes created the backup.
