iTunes "thinks" music that WAS on my iPhone is still there.

From my iPhone, I manually deleted all of my music via settings, usage, etc. However, when I connect this phone to iTunes, all of the music that I deleted still appears as on my phone. Also, I am unable to delete these selections via iTunes. Lastly, I cannot add any music to the iPhone. Any suggestions?
