Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

The phone will not turn on normally and I will get a cloud-like image on the screen. After swiping repeatedly on the scrren I get a large numeral 5 with the letters J K L underneath the 5. The phone sreen then eventually goes blank.

iPhone 5S does not turn on after using it earlier in the day.The screen shows a cloud-like image and after swiping the screen repeatedly, it shows a large numeral 5 with the letters J K L underneath.

So it sounds as if your iPhone is not completely starting up, a distressing situation to be sure. Let's see if we can get you up and running.


I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -


If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support


Start with the section titled If your device gets stuck during startup.

When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
  2. Put your device in recovery mode.
  3. When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
