Recently did the security up, and after my Mac restarted it booted to a flashing folder with a question mark on it. I've tried to go through and repair the disk, but it isn't there. I just tried to reinstall OS X but it can't find a disk to install It to, I've given up on trying to keep by data. I've tried to safe boot, but the only thing that appears is Internet recovery

Have you tried the Internet Recovery?
YYup pretty, I go through and do that and it does the spiny global thing and then a apple and then to the screen with all the languages. I go though and have the OS X utilities and I select disk utility and the only things that show up are disk0 and Mac OS X Base System
I am experiencing the very same issues with my MacBook too. I'm going to call Apple support tomorrow when the phone line is open and can share the advice if it's successful.
I took my macbook pro with the same issue to an authorised Apple repair shop. Turns out it was a faulty cable which they replaced and now it's working fine.
No start up disk?
