I cannot remember my administrator password; WHAT do we do?

What do I do if I cannot remember my administrator's password. I have used it exactly 0 times in the last 6 months which is how long I've had this present Mac which is not an old Mac.(mid-2014)

*sigh*😟

You can reset your Admin password, and there are a number of ways you can do this. Below are the steps for one of these methods:

  1. Boot to the recovery partition on your original drive by holding down the Command-R keys as you start up your Mac. (When you see the start up screen, you can let go of the keys.)
  2. When your Mac boots, you will see the OS X Utilities screen. Click on Utilities in the Apple menu and select Terminal.
  3. At the Terminal prompt, type ‘resetpassword’ (no quotes) then hit enter.
  4. This will launch the reset utility, which allows you to select a drive, a user, then a new password and password hint for your admin user.
  5. After saving, go to the Apple Menu and click Restart.

Hope this helps!

Joe.
