ON my iPad (4th gen.) with 16gb. I would like to update from ios5 to ios8 . I have tried the software update feature and it keeps saying that my software is up to date with iOS 5.0.1. What can I do

Two questions:
1. Are you certain that your iOS version isn't 5.1.1?
2. What makes you think it is an iPad 4?
If it is running 5.1.1 and it says it is up to date, then it is an iPad 1, and it is running the highest version of the iOS that it can.

Can you please confirm 1st Gen iPAD does not support ios 8.0?
Is that limitation on HW?
Does 1st Gen iPAD with IOS version 5.1, can be updated with IOS 8.0?
In updates latest IOS version is not showing up. Please help.
